New office for Field: Carl Holen embarks on a month-long trek home to Ålesund
Carl Fredrik Engholm Holen is on a month-long trek back home to Ålesund to establish a new land surveying office for Field.
After four years in Oslo, surveyor Carl Fredrik Engholm Holen is returning to Ålesund in an extraordinary way — on foot! Holen, who works for Field Geospatial AS, has chosen to walk all the way, a journey of around 600 km, to establish a new office in his hometown.
"After three years in Bergen and four years in Oslo, the time has come to return home. This has always been the plan since I moved seven years ago. As I'm very fond of the outdoors, the idea of walking home came up. After all, it's much more fun than driving. By studying the maps, I decided that it was feasible during a summer vacation," says Holen.
On June 1, Holen handed the keys to the new apartment owners and started the journey home. Holen will then follow the Jotunheim Trail from Oslo to Gjendesheim. He will then cross Jotunheimen to Lom and continue towards Billingen. At Billingen, he will then embark on Tafjordfjella. After arriving at Tafjorden, the tour continues to Stranda via Patchelhytta and Hjørundfjorden. And from there, Ålesund awaits.
"I've previously been on a few week-long trips around Norway. This has given me a taste for more, so I wanted to try a longer trip. What distinguishes this trip from the ones I've been on before, apart from the time horizon and the distances, is that I'll be doing this trip alone. I'm looking forward to living the simple outdoor life and all that it brings."
When Holen arrives in Ålesund on July 1, he will begin establishing a new Field office offering land surveying services. "These are exciting times!" he says.
