Precision and safety in focus

Bane NOR has commissioned Bertelsen & Garpestad to upgrade Sandnes station, with the aim of improving accessibility for all travelers. The project includes the construction of a new elevator and stairs that will provide better access to the station.

Upgrading a railway station in active use places high demands on surveillance and security. Especially in Sandnes, where the ground conditions are known to be challenging, with the risk of subsidence, precise monitoring is crucial to ensure stability both during and after the construction process.

Why monitoring is critical

When construction work is carried out near active railway lines, even small movements in the ground or infrastructure can lead to major consequences. That's why monitoring railway-track geometry and surrounding structures has become an important part of the project. Field was chosen as the supplier of monitoring solutions for the project.

Advanced geo-sensor technology

Field delivered a complete solution where we installed Senceive NanoMacro sensors, which continuously monitor critical parameters such as:

  • Settlements
  • Edge
  • Torsion
  • Other movements that can affect safety
  • Real-time notifications

Field solutions are equipped with an advanced alert function that sends immediate notifications to all stakeholders if movements exceed predefined thresholds. This ensures that necessary actions can be taken quickly to minimize risk and maintain safety.

The sensors provide real-time data to project management and alert them to critical changes. They are specifically designed to cope with challenging conditions, including extreme temperatures and unstable ground conditions - a perfect solution for the conditions in Sandnes.

With this project, we are helping to make Sandnes station not only more accessible, but also safer for all users. Our team is proud to be a part of the upgrade of this important transportation hub and looks forward to continuing to deliver high quality monitoring services for future projects.
